Keep asking questions, I'm really enjoying this!
I studied in Bologna in Italy up till the end on my PhD in 2001
PhD in Chemistry
After my PhD in joined UCD for a post doc and then was hired as a lecturer still in UCD.
Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Chemical Biology
Favourite thing to do in science: I love to chat about our current research with other scientists that share the same interests, conferences are a great place to meet up for this and showcase your latest results.
The world of extremophilic organisms is fascinating, they can help solving some of our industrial problems without much effort!
My Typical Day
Teaching, preparing new lectures or practicals, meeting undergraduate students and finally spending some time to chat with my research group!
What I'd do with the money
I will use them to host a Chemistry Show.

Not really, my grades for some reason I couldn’t tell worsened at one point, but thankfully it was just a blip!
What was your favourite subject at school?
What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?
Developing a completely new undergraduate programme in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology. I wasn’t sure I could pull that one off!
What or who inspired you to become a scientist?
If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?
A medic (doing a bit of research as well as clinic!)
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
I wish I wouldn’t worry so much about things. I wish I won the lottery so I could do all the research I want (not only the things other people think are worth it). I wish I could know my family will always be safe and healthy.
Tell us a joke.
