I think you’re asking for the scientist with the greatest achievements. It’s hard to pick one but I have to go with Einstein.
Most people think he only did high level physics, e=mc^2 and relativity but he also made breakthroughs in Brownian motion, how molecules bounce around and mix as liquids and gases, extremely important in Chemistry plus the photo electric effect which is the basis of all solar panels. These plus e=mc^2 and special relativity were all done in just 1 year!! His discoveries didn’t stop there and I’d recommend reading a biography of his life.

Hi ellie – I’d have to say one of the earlier scientists.

Michael Faraday did a load of work on magnetism , electricity, electrochemistry and catalysis in London in the 1800s – and he built his equipment himself, gave hugely popular lectures on science to the general public and worked his way up from the boy that swept the floor of the lab to being the director of the royal institution.

Marie Curie is another standout scientist – 2 Nobel prizes and huge strides forward in determining the nature of the atom.

      Hi there!

Science is so broad in terms of discipline that you would need to be specific and say that a scientist made great progress in a particular field (medicine, chemistry, physics etc). For me Pasteur, who was both a chemist and a microbiologist, with his discoveries of vaccines is the one to mention with respect to the massive improvements he brought to humanity in general. There is a great quote attributed to him which says “‘Chance favors the prepared mind” in other terms, one can be lucky and discover something good purely accidentally, but only if his/her mind is open and trained it will noticed it and realise its potential.
